The Watauga County Public Library would like to invite you to join us for the next installment in a series of
Financial Literacy Workshops for teens
on

Monday, February 8th from
5:30 to 7:30 pm
at the NC Works Career Center / Appalachian Enterprise Center,

130 Poplar Grove Road Connector, Boone, NC.

OR

Thursday, February 18th
from
5 to 7 pm

at the
Watauga County Public Library,

This month's focus will be on paying for college. Specifically, teens will learn how to evaluate college costs, avoid the credit card craze, calculate taxes, and decipher payroll deductions. They will learn how to prepare for emergencies and gain an understanding of the risks and annual expenses related to investing. Budgeting and saving will be revisited for their critical role in dealing with these challenges.

Food will be served at both events!

The Watauga County Public Library will again host VITA, the
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program), a Tax Filing Help Service,
(click to view the VITA Tax Help IRS web page)

Friday Afternoons and Saturday Mornings in February, March, and April.
The VITA Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income (generally, $54,000 and below) people to file their individual tax returns.
Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. VITA volunteers will sit down with you and file your federal and state returns electronically. This year the Watauga County Public Library is again partnering with VITA to offer tax help appointments, which are on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, from the first weekend in February through mid-April. Speak to a Library staff member at the Reference Desk or call (828) 264-8784, Extension 2, to learn about qualifications and to set up an appointment time.
